We are currently seeking a Technical Editor/Writer. This position is located in Arlington, VA.

JOB SUMMARY

Battelle’s Critical Infrastructure business unit is seeking a technical editor/writer to support the quality control process of contract deliverables for research development, test and evaluation, and quality management of security systems and technologies for both the Department Homeland Security and the Transportation Security Administration.  This is a full-time position, and the selected candidate will work in Arlington, VA.

Primary responsibilities will be providing document configuration control, providing grammatical editing and writing to contract documentation, formatting products to align to stakeholder requirements, and creating digital templates.  Candidate must have the ability to team with a diverse group of individuals ranging from new college graduates to PhD level. Candidate shall have the ability to maintain, prioritize, and manage deliverable schedules so all documents meet client mandated deadlines and follow approved ISO 9001:2015 approved processes.  This includes developing delivery schedules for all phases of documentation review, ensuring correct templates have been appropriately followed, and tracking client signature approval routing. 

Candidate must proofread and edit a range of test and evaluation documents and scientific reports and be flexible and quickly adapt to changes in priorities while directed by clients or management staff. Candidate must have the ability to adapt to change and manage multi-author/multi-reviewer publication cooperatively, tracking progression of multiple documents simultaneously. 

Candidate must have excellent grammatical and rhetorical skills and be familiar with a broad range of communication techniques and styles. Having significant functional experience with higher capabilities in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat, and SharePoint is required.  Candidate should be capable of creating and maintaining document templates with coordination of requirement needs from the client, knowledge of layout, design, and desktop publishing principles is desirable. Having Database experience such as Microsoft Access or Oracle is a plus.  
 

THE FOLLOWING IS REQUIRED

  • The candidate must have a bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communication or a technical field related to document creation and/or publication, and a minimum of 2-5 years of experience
  • Must have an understanding of the basic principles, practices, operations and specialized vocabulary of technical subject matter, and have the ability to describe information in simple clear language
  • Must have acquired experience as a writer or editor of technical reports, manuals, or specifications
  • Sole US Citizenship with ability/willingness to obtain DOD Secret Security Clearance and ability to obtain TSA Security Suitability
  • Fluent and proficient in English language, both verbal and written

THE FOLLOWING IS DESIRED

  • Already possess a Secret Security Clearance
  • Already possess TSA Security Suitability
  • 15 semester hours in direct technical writing
