  • Collaborate with the trust and assurance team to assess the security, reliability, and trustworthiness of electronic devices, integrated circuits, and embedded systems.
  • Be an integral part of an accomplished team of cyber experts in both hardware and software; and will have opportunities to work closely with physicists, mathematicians and other scientific experts from across Battelle.
  • Responsible for the safe operation of laboratory equipment including acid, solvent, base, and other hazardous chemical systems.
  • Responsible for training key personnel in chemical processing techniques.
  • Responsible for developing and coordinating environmental and safety plans for chemical processing and for coordinating these plans with Battelle Corporate ES&H.
  • Support semiconductor device forensics and material analysis through chemical processing.
  • Identify and articulate strengths and weaknesses of solutions, conclusions and problem approaches during technical discussions.
  • Works with internal stakeholders to support preparation of presentations and reports. May be called on to provide input, perform demonstrations or present on assigned tasks during customer meetings.
  • Contribute to Internal Research and Development (IRAD) studies and may lead small IRAD tasks.
  • Prioritizes and completes structured assignments with mentoring from senior staff. May seek guidance in identifying subsequent tasking. 




  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, or Material Science, or related field of study, or equivalent experience
  • 2 – 9 years’ experience in Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, or Material Science, or related technical area
  • Familiarity in all of the following:
  • Chemical processing for reverse engineering of semiconductors
  • Semiconductor device physics.
  • Focused Ion Beam (FIB), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), and similar imaging tools.
  • Must be a sole US citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a US government security clearance.




  • Master’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Material Science with 0 – 6 years of relevant experience with selective chemical etchants for semiconductor failure and material analysis
  • Prior research experience in small scale chemical laboratory
  • Expertise in one or more of the following areas:
  • Chemical processing for reverse engineering of semiconductors
  • Semiconductor device physics.
  • Focused Ion Beam (FIB), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), and similar imaging tools. ‘
  • Active Secret or Top Secret Clearance
